CORVALLIS – Representative Dan Rayfield (D-Corvallis) will continue his four-part summer educational series with an education forum on July 2nd from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. The forum will feature a panel of political leaders and experts from around the state and local community. Panelists will include Representative Margaret Doherty (D-Tigard), Representative Teresa Alonso-Leon (D-Woodburn), Jessica Ventura, Legislative Director for the Oregon Department of Education, Vince Adams, Chair of the Corvallis School Board, and Peg Cornell, Corvallis Teacher and Corvallis Oregon Education Association President.
“Oregon families are counting on us to make critical investments in our schools, and I look forward to talking with folks about what our students need,” said Doherty. Doherty has over 30 years of experience as a teacher and education advocate, and currently serves as the Chair of the House Committee on Education.
The upcoming forum will begin with a presentation from the Oregon Department of Education on the state of education in Oregon, a discussion of the state’s recent successes in the field of education, and the challenges that lie ahead. The forum will be followed by a question and answer period to allow the community to engage and ask questions.
“We’re looking forward to engaging directly with the community about critical issues facing our students’ education,” Alonso-Leon said. Alonso-Leon previously worked as Oregon’s High School Equivalency and GED Administrator, and currently serves as the Vice-Chair for the House Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development.
The education forum will take place at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library from 7:00pm – 8:30pm on July 2nd.
