An Attorney General for All Oregonians.
Meet Dan
Dan Rayfield has made a significant positive impact on Oregon and his community as a legal, elected, and community leader, and he serves as the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives. First admitted to the Oregon Bar in 2006, Dan practices general civil litigation, consumer protection and represents people with claims against the insurance industry and large corporations.
In 2005, prior to his law school graduation, he clerked for the Benton County District Attorney’s office. During his time at the District Attorney’s office, he gained his first trial experience prosecuting DUIs and other misdemeanor charges. Dan has also served as a coach attorney for the OSU Mock Trial Team, a former Linn County Peer Court Judge, and Past President of the Linn-Benton Bar Association. Dan is a partner in the law firm of Nelson MacNeil Rayfield.
Dan grew up in Oregon and is a product of the Oregon public school system. Following his graduation from Tigard High School, Dan attended Western Oregon University and then earned his law degree from Willamette University College of Law.
As a child, Dan’s two contrasting parents had a big influence on him. His mother was an activist and a small business owner that often dragged her young and unwilling son along to various progressive events and protests. His father, on the other hand, was a colonel in the Air Force Reserve and an insurance executive that had more conservative views on matters. That contrast helped develop a leadership style that Dan has become known for: focusing on the goals people hold in common, while navigating the different approaches to how to get there.
Since 2015, Dan has used those skills as the State Representative for Oregon House District 16, which encompasses the cities of Corvallis and Philomath, and Oregon State University. In 2022, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as Speaker of the House. Over that time, he has helped lead the way on issues including a high quality education for our children, access to affordable and reliable healthcare, making sure families are able to earn a living wage while simultaneously nurturing innovation and supporting Oregon’s small businesses, and making our public safety system more effective and accountable.
Dan lives in Corvallis with his wife Amanda and their son Adam.
